Located in Santa Barbara, this project came to us after a change of ownership. It had been a rental for over 20 years and was subdivided into two separate units, consisting of two one-bedroom apartments, replacing a three-bedroom, two-bath home. It was completely out of balance and did not actually have two fully functional units. With the goal of turning this into a rental property or a destination Airbnb, we restored it to its original form—a single-family three-bedroom, two-bath house. Returning it to its roots in a modern way, we maximized indoor-outdoor living, taking advantage of the mountain and ocean views, and leveraging the natural heating and cooling of the sun to create a place where groups can come together, but also have their own space. We redesigned the deck for big parties or intimate dinners while watching the sunset. The fully functional space includes three bedrooms, a primary bedroom with an ensuite bath, and a secondary bath. It can sleep eight people with a living room sleeping area. What we've achieved is an income property that can be shared with family for multiple generations.
